Peru President attends Mexican presidential inauguration

13:34 | Mexico City (Mexico), Dec. 1.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra takes part in the swearing-in ceremony of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in Mexico.

Upon arrival in the hosting nation, Vizcarra was welcomed by the Peruvian Ambassador to Mexico Julio Garro and the North American country's soon-to-be Secretary of Economy Graciela Marquez.

As is known, the Parliament authorized Vizcarra's trip to Mexico through a legislative resolution passed on November 22.

Likewise, the Peruvian delegation included the participation of Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio.

According to the Supreme Resolution —published in El Peruano official gazette— the official visit is a sign of the importance given to the bilateral relations which are aimed at reinforcing cooperation.

Likewise, it strengthens the friendship ties uniting the two countries and reaffirms their shared vision through integration initiatives.

It must be noted Mexico and Peru maintain a strategic bilateral relationship.

In addition, both nations —along with Chile and Colombia— comprise the Pacific Alliance (PA), the most dynamic trade integration bloc in the region.

About Lopez Obrador

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) —the candidate of a three-party coalition led by National Regeneration Movement party (Morena)— garnered more than 50% of the votes in the latest presidential elections in Mexico.

It must be noted over 80 million Mexicans headed to the polls on July 1. First reports revealed the leftist was elected by a large majority over his other rivals.

Thus, the former Mexico City mayor becomes the first left-leaning President to lead this country in decades.

The 65-year-old veteran succeeds Enrique Peña Nieto to take office for a six-year term (2018-2024) as ruler of Mexico.

Lopez Obrador assumes the Mexican presidency to fulfil high expectations of electors but amid investors and financial markets' uncertainty.
