Peru President: At least 119,000 people have defeated COVID-19

Some 119,409 people managed to defeat the COVID-19 disease, President Martin Vizcarra stressed, during his virtual press conference on the 92nd day of the state of national emergency decreed to contain the advance of the pandemic in Peru.

Within this framework, the Head of State stressed that more and more citizens are recovering from the novel coronavirus.

"What is really worth noting is that there are more recovered people who managed to beat COVID-19, and they are the combatants, as they have already overcome the virus; there are 119,409 people who have recovered from coronavirus," he expressed.

Likewise, the top official ratified that the

Government will continue with the implementation of all necessary measures to improve the response capacity in favor of the Peruvians affected by the pandemic.

Within this framework, the statesman reported that there are 232,992 positive coronavirus cases —of a total of 1,376,478 samples.

Thus, Mr. Vizcarra reaffirmed that the Executive Branch will not let its guard down and will remain firm in its efforts to defeat the COVID-19, supported by clear measures that allow the reactivation of productive activities, along with the increase in labor supply.

Remarks were made in a televised press conference within the framework of a mandatory social isolation imposed to prevent the COVID-19 from further spreading in the South American country.

Initially set to last from March 16 to 30, the quarantine was extended until June 30.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Monday marks the ninety-second day of mandatory social isolation in Peru.
