The Peruvian Government will sign a Supreme Decree declaring a state of emergency in the country's Central Highway to promote the financing of studies for alternative routes, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski announced on Friday.

As is known, the Inca country is currently at the mercy of the onslaughts of nature.

The measure follows several efforts by the Transport and Communications Ministry to set tunnels and detours, despite which the Central Highway still represents an obstacle.

"It is time to explore other alternatives and to promote routes which run in parallel or at least avoid permanent landslides," Mr. Kuczynski said in a press conference from Lima's Government Palace.

Joined by central Junin region authorities, the Head of State noted such options must shorten journeys, avoiding Ticlio and landslide-affected areas.

The statesman also anticipated a virtual cabinet to approve the said measure once ministers return from their trips to northern and southern Peru.

State ministers have been deployed across rain- and landslide-affected areas, where they currently oversee emergency response and relief efforts.
