Peru PM: Gov't evaluates new measures to relaunch economic growth

10:16 | Lima, Jul. 20.

Peruvian Prime Minister Pedro Cateriano affirmed that the Government is evaluating new measures to relaunch the country's economic growth.

The Cabinet chief commented that he met with Ministers Maria Antonieta Alva (Economy and Finance), Rafael Belaunde (Energy and Mines) as well as economy sector officials on Sunday morning, with the aim of evaluating the measures to be adopted —by the end of the year— in order to boost the economy.

"Some have questioned the fact of giving priority to the economic growth, but the truth is that companies have operated even during World War II," Cateriano told Cuarto Poder TV show on Sunday night.

"If the stoppage of operations continues, workers will pay the highest price as they will not receive any income," he added.

According to the Cabinet chief, when it comes to health, everyone is affected, but in a country like Peru —where poverty needs to be banished— the unprivileged are the most affected and suffer the most.

Cateriano reiterated that he will adopt an "open door policy with everyone." Besides, he emphasized that private companies are a source of wealth creation and have a role to play at this stage.

"I believe that it is necessary to provide facilities without violating the legal order. Today, we have exchanged views on the legal framework for this process, in which the country's economic growth must be forcefully relaunched," he stated.
