Prime Minister Anibal Torres on Tuesday highlighted the need for school students to return to face-to-face classes this year, while warning of the damage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic to education.

"We are obliged to resume face-to-face education this year (…); there is no other alternative; the time that the pandemic prompted us to waste has caused enormous damage to children and youth, and that will have future consequences," Torres expressed.

The Cabinet chief said it was necessary to keep in mind that people's degree of culture is not due to postgraduate studies, but to what was learned during initial and primary education levels.

"There, we learned to speak correctly, to read, to write; there we have learned the main values of not discriminating against one another, to be considered all equal as human beings; there we learned solidarity with our fellow citizens," he emphasized.

Likewise, the high-ranking official referred to citizen security and explained that the proposals and measures submitted by the Executive Branch on this issue are based on reality and not simply on theory.

Given this, the PCM head called on various government agencies, as well as civil society, to join efforts so as to confront crime.

According to the Prime Minister, citizen security is not only the task of the National Police of Peru, but also of the Armed Forces, State-run institutions, academia, and organized civil society.

On the other hand, the Cabinet chief affirmed that economic reactivation is urgent in Peru.

Moreover, he urged mayors to propose measures and budget requirements taking into account the limits of fiscal funds.

Remarks were made during the inauguration of the Executive Meeting with Municipal Associations of Lima.

The Executive Meeting with Municipal Associations of Lima is made up of 41 municipalities in 5 associations representing 7 million Peruvian citizens.
