Peru: Over 140,000 locals to benefit from reconstruction works in Piura hospitals

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday attended a ceremony to lay the foundation stone of reconstruction works in Huancabamba, Huarmaca, and Ayabaca hospitals of Piura region.

According to the Authority for Reconstruction with Changes (RCC), these works will benefit more than 140,000 inhabitants of the aforementioned areas.

During the ceremony, the Head of State affirmed the resources allocated to these hospitals and to Canchaque Huancabamba highway are guaranteed until the completion of projects.

The total investment is more than S/265 million (around US$79 million), and reconstruction works are to be completed by 2020.

In the case of Huancabamba, the investment amounts to S/99.3 million (around US$29.6 million). 

Additionally, S/80.2 million (about US$23.9 million) will be spent to reconstruct hospital facilities in Huarmaca, while the allocated amount for the Ayabaca medical center is S/85.9 million (about US$25.6 million).

"Today is a historic day for Piura as the Government will start three hospital projects simultaneously," RCC Chief Edgar Quispe remarked.

He affirmed a number of technical files —submitted by Piura's executing agencies— are undergoing an approval process and will be ready for funding in 2019.
