Peru's agro-exports totaled US$1.6 billion in 1Q 2019

Peru's agricultural exports amounted to US$1.6 billion in the first quarter of 2019, up 6% from the same period last year (US$1.5 billion), Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry (Minagri) reported Wednesday.

According to a report by Minagri's Directorate-General for Monitoring and Evaluation of Policies, higher shipments of fruits and vegetables stood out, as the principal and most demanded agro-exports to international markets.

The highlights in this first quarter were grapes, mangoes, and fresh blueberries, as well as decaffeinated unroasted coffee, fresh asparagus, and animal feed preparations. Together these products accounted for 52% of total exports.

Likewise, greater shipments of fresh grapes (US$397 million, up 33%), fresh blueberries (US$87 million, up 79%), frozen mangoes (US$48 million, up 10%), pomegranates (US$33 million, up 17%), prepared not frozen asparagus (US$26 million, up 1%), among others, were reported between January and March of 2019.

Exports' major destinations 

The main destinations for Peruvian grapes were the United States, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, China, Mexico, Thailand, Spain, Canada, Russia, Korea, Colombia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Portugal, England, Saudi Arabia, among others.

In the case of fresh and dried mangoes, the main markets were the Netherlands, the United States, Spain, England, Korea, Canada, France, Chile, Ecuador, Japan, Russia, Mexico, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, among others.

As for fresh blueberries, target markets included the United States, the Netherlands, England, China, Canada, Spain, Hong Kong, Brazil, Thailand, Germany, Costa Rica, Malaysia, Belgium, among others.

Decaffeinated unroasted coffee exports reached the United States, Germany, Belgium, Canada, England, Colombia, Sweden, Korea, France, Japan, Dominican Republic, Australia, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Ireland, among others.

The principal destinations of fresh or frozen asparagus were the United States, the Netherlands, England, Spain, Brazil, Germany, Australia, Japan, France, Belgium, Chile, Colombia, Korea, Italy, Hong Kong, Ireland, among others.

Animal feed preparations were mainly shipped to Ecuador, Honduras, Panama, Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Colombia, El Salvador, and Cuba.

As per frozen mangoes, top markets included the United States, Canada, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Japan, Korea, Chile, England, Sweden, Norway, Spain, Mexico, Israel, Australia, France, Croatia, Portugal, among others.

Fresh Cavendish Valery bananas were principally exported to the Netherlands, the United States, Panama, Belgium, Germany, Korea, England, Japan, Finland, Italy, Sweden, Canada, Chile, Spain, and Aruba.

Peruvian pomegranate exports were destined mainly to the Netherlands, Russia, England, the United States, Canada, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Egypt, Colombia, Spain, Italy, Kuwait, Lebanon, France, among others.

Finally, the main destinations for exports of prepared not frozen asparagus were Spain, France, the United States, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Australia, Japan, Denmark, Canada, Brazil, Belgium, Chile, Lebanon, among others.
