Peru: New PM to foster communication, dialogue with political parties

11:02 | Lima, Mar. 12.

Peru's new Prime Minister Salvador del Solar has affirmed he will foster better communication under his administration and will build bridges with all political parties at Congress.

"I've told the President (Martin Vizcarra) that I can contribute to improving communication, building bridges, as well as restoring dialogue and the ability to listen to one another (…), which has become a very difficult practice in our country over the past years," he told Canal N news channel.

Del Solar said that President Vizcarra's invitation to lead the Ministerial Cabinet is probably the biggest challenge he has ever had and that he could not say no.

He emphasized the Head of State took office at a difficult moment and that his gestures have inspired several Peruvians, including him, because "he has been quite brave."

Likewise, he noted the Executive Power aims to establish the best possible relations with all political groups at Congress.

In this sense, he stressed the fact that throughout the day (on Monday) lawmakers expressed their willingness to build bridges.

"This can be a new phase, not only at the Executive Branch. If we are unselfish enough to put Peru first, this can be a new stage at politics, a sort of transition that may allow the next leader —taking office on 28 July 2021— to find an organized country at the beginning of the third centenary of the Republic," he stated.
