Peru: Minsa to invest US$9.9 million to expand hospital capacity in five regions

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) started to increase its hospital capacity in five regions of the country in order to set up and operate the infrastructure and equipment of six health modules with 746 beds, of which 46 will be for intensive care units (ICU).

This expansion will entail an investment of more than S/34 million (around US$9.9 million).

The execution of this investment —which is provided for in Urgency Decree No. 055-2020, issued by the Executive Branch— will take place through the National Health Investment Program (Pronis).

According to Peru's health authority, 400 hospital beds will be provided as a rapid response to the fight against covid-19

These beds will be distributed to Heroes del 36 Stadium in Sullana (Piura region), Victor Ramos Guardia Hospital in Huaraz (Ancash region), the Ucayali fairground, and Cusco Hospital Regional.

The remaining 346 beds will be set up in Arequipa region: 100 hospital beds at Goyeneche Hospital and 246 beds (46 ICU beds) at Honorio Delgado Hospital.
