Peru's Ministry of Production (Produce) on Friday reported that industrial
production rose 1.4% in September, registering four months of continuous growth.
According to Produce's General Office of Impact Evaluation and Economic Studies, this result is due to the
primary sub-sector's growth (1.5%), as well as to the non-primary sub-sector, which registered a positive variation of 1.4% over the same month the previous year.
The Department also noted that the positive result —recorded by the primary sub-sector— was explained by the increase in the
production of the fishery industry (123.8%) and —to a lesser extent— the ones represented by meat products (2.4%) and sugar refining activities (1.9%).
"The good performance of the fishery products industry is due to the availability of raw material for the frozen (…) industry, highlighting the
greater catches of giant squid, prawns, mackerel and fan shell, among other species," it added.
Non-primary manufacturing sector
Concerning the non-primary sub-sector, its growth was mainly influenced by greater production of intermediate goods due to the positive performance of industries linked to the metal structure (31.5%) and wood sawing (86.3%) activities, among others.
