Peru: Lava Jato case team delivers collaboration agreement with Odebrecht

14:02 | Lima, Mar. 25.

Peru's Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group on Monday handed over the collaboration agreement signed with Odebrecht to the Judicial Branch in order to subject it to a legality control.

The document was delivered by Deputy Prosecutor Henry Amenabar, and it will be reviewed by Judge Maria de Los Angeles Alvarez.

The agreement is comprised of 739 volumes containing 147,801 pages.

According to Prosecutor Rafael Vela, this agreement will enable the handing over of evidence and testimonies for the investigations in four cases in which Odebrecht admitted corruption acts.

These are Lima Metro Line 1, South Interoceanic Highway Project, Cusco's Evitamiento Road, and Costa Verde–Callao Stretch concession.

Furthermore, the Brazilian construction company will pay S/610 million (around US$182 million) in civil reparations to the Peruvian State, as well as provide testimonies, evidence, and information saved in servers used to hide the bribes paid through the Division of Structured Operations (also known as Box Two).

Odebrecht

As is known, the Brazilian construction giant admitted to having paid millions in bribes to government officials in Peru, in order to secure public-works contracts.

As a result, Odebrecht benefited from over US$143 million between 2005 and 2014 in Peru, according to the U.S. Justice Department.

In addition, four ex-Presidents have been linked to the Brazilian company such as: Alejandro Toledo (2001-2006), Alan Garcia (2006-2011), Ollanta Humala (2011-2016), and Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (2016-2018)

Former presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori —currently under preventive detention— also allegedly received money from Odebrecht for her 2011 campaign.
