Under strict security measures, the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) began the transfer of inmate, Dutch citizen Joran Andreas Petrus Van Der Sloot, from the Challapalca Prison in Peru's southern Tacna region to a penitentiary establishment in the Peruvian capital, Lima, for temporary admission, the State-run institution reported on Saturday.

Thus, the resolution —issued by the Twenty-second Liquidating Criminal Courtroom of the Superior Justice Court of Lima dated May 30, 2023— is being complied with.

The petition was submitted by United States authorities for van der Sloot to be tried on American soil for the alleged commission of the crimes of extortion and fraud against U.S. citizen Elizabeth Ann Holloway —mother of Natalee Holloway, who disappeared in 2005.

In the next few days, the INPE will proceed to deliver the convict to INTERPOL PERU's National Central Bureau (NCB) in order to hand him over to the U.S. authorities from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
