The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Monday assured that his administration will make the efforts required to assist vulnerable households by granting them the Universal Family Bonus with the aim of mitigating the covid-19 pandemic impact.

The Head of State said that the corresponding calculation has been made based on the households existing in the country, 6.7 million of which should each benefit from the bonus worth S/760 (US$223).

"If there are 7 million or 7.5 million households, we will make the efforts to provide the additional resources necessary for this bonus to reach out to each of the families that really need it," he expressed.

"We have a week left, we have (already served) more or less 3.5 million to date, and the goal is to serve 1.5 million households this week until the month's end," he stated.

The statesman pointed out that his administration is monitoring compliance with this goal in order to serve 5 million families, who represent a significant percentage of the population that needs the subsidy.

"We would have 1.7 million households for the month of June, some of which are already clearly identified based on their rural location," he said.

Those families will be assisted next month because of their remote location.

"But there are also some households that have yet to be identified, and that (identifying them) is what has taken additional time," he added.

Lastly, Mr. Vizcarra reaffirmed his administration's commitment to make every effort to serving all families who require this financial support.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Monday marks the seventy-first day of mandatory social isolation.
