The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday afternoon reiterated that —starting April 8— the S/380 (about US$107) social bonus will be deposited to each independent worker by the Government, so that they are able to cope with the mandatory social isolation currently in place in Peru.

"This bonus will benefit 780,000 vulnerable households. In addition, this bonus will be added to the bonus paid by the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis) to households that are in poverty and extreme poverty, which total 2.7 million," he expressed.

The workers —who will benefit from the transfer— must each hold an account at the State-run Banco de la Nacion (Bank of the Nation) in order to collect the subsidy.

Otherwise, they must follow the steps indicated on the platform in order to create the corresponding access to Banco de la Nacion's mobile banking services.

In both cases, the beneficiaries will be allowed to withdraw the money from an ATM or authorized agency close to their homes, thus avoiding queues at bank branches.

That initial bonus is worth S/380 as it was intended for a period of 15 days. Because of the emergency extension, it will total S/760 (about US$214).

Today's remarks were made in a televised press conference, within the framework of a mandatory social isolation imposed to prevent the COVID-19 from further spreading in the South American country.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Tuesday marks the twenty-third day of mandatory social isolation.
