Peru: Government recognizes participants in COVID-19 vaccine negotiations

The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti praised various personalities for their contributions to the negotiations aimed at bringing vaccines against coronavirus to Peru.

In a ceremony held at the Government Palace on Friday night, the Head of State awarded the Order of Merit for Distinguished Services to Lisa Danzig and Betty Sotelo, who had contributed to the negotiations with suppliers of these doses.

Both of them were also praised for their participation in the purchases agreed with Pfizer pharmaceutical company.

Likewise, lawyer Juan Jose Ruda was recognized for his participation in legal and juridical aspects linked to the negotiations with vaccine-producing laboratories.

Cabinet chief Violeta Bermudez, as well as Ministers Allan Wagner (Foreign Affairs), Waldo Mendoza (Economy-Finance), and Oscar Ugarte (Health) attended the event.

Peru will have received 19,136,100 doses of COVID-19 vaccines until the end of July, an amount that includes the new batches to arrive in the South American country over the coming weeks, Health Minister Ugarte announced recently.

Besides, the Cabinet member estimated that the entire eligible population of Peru will be vaccinated against COVID-19 by December this year if the current vaccination rate is maintained.
