Economy-Finance Minister Pedro Francke on Tuesday reaffirmed that the Government's proposal is for Julio Velarde to remain as Governor of the Central Reserve Bank (BCR), as previously stated by the President of the Republic.

The BCR Governor is designated by the Executive Branch, but must be ratified by Parliament.

"The most important thing for us is to have a board of directors, along with a Governor, Dr. Julio Velarde, who can have a good performance towards monetary stability and protect us against the problem of inflation, which is so critical nowadays," he told reporters.

The government official reminded reporters that the Constitution establishes the total autonomy of the Central Reserve Bank, adding that its exclusive purpose is monetary stability.

"I remember that practically all previous governments made these designations between September and October," he added.
