The
National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) recommends that electors cast their vote according to a staggered schedule with suggested voting times in order to provide greater levels of safety and minimize the risks of COVID-19 infection.
Thus, the most vulnerable people, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with disabilities, are encouraged to go to the polls between 7:00 a.m. and 8:59 a.m.
Everyone else is encouraged to go from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., according to a staggered schedule with suggested voting times based on the last digit of their ID number.
In this way, people whose last digit on their ID card is 1 can go to the polling station from 9:00 a.m. to 9:59 a.m.; those whose last ID digit is 2 are encouraged to go from 10:00 a.m. to 10:59 a.m.
The 11:00am–11:59am schedule is recommended for those whose last ID digit is 3; while the 12:00pm–12:59pm schedule for those whose digit is 4; and so on until digit 0 is reached, so that the last group of citizens can cast their ballots during the last hour of voting.
According to ONPE Chief Piero Corvetto, the staggered voting schedule is essential to guarantee physical distancing and, thus, avoid queues and crowds at polling stations on April 11.
By doing so, he said, citizens will be able to cast their votes with confidence and security.
Face masks and pens
Additionally, Corvetto asked the population to bring their ID card, face mask, and blue pen on election day, so as to avoid possible infections.
