The Inca Trail routes to Machu Picchu have been closed since August 18, as a safety and preventive measure following heavy rains, mudslides, and the activation of ravines recorded on August 17 and 18.
Following the closure, technical assessments, rehabilitation, cleanup, and restoration of tourism infrastructure affected by the rains and natural events were ordered to ensure safe and passable conditions for tourist visits along the aforementioned routes.

According to reports, the aforementioned routes remain under evaluation to assess safety and passability conditions for users.
At a recent meeting with representatives from the Cusco Region Government's Regional Office for Disaster Risk Management, the National Civil Defense Institute's (Indeci) Cusco Directorate, Sernanp, and the DDC in Cusco, it was agreed that this technical inspection will be carried out from tomorrow through Sunday.
The officials reiterated that the purpose is "to verify their safety and passability conditions, as well as identify existing risks, with the aim of guaranteeing visitors' well-being and safety."
"Once the technical inspection has been completed, and based on the conditions verified and the specialists' assessment, the reopening date for Routes 1, 2, and 3 of the Inca Trail Network to Machu Picchu will be determined," they emphasized.
However, while these assessment activities are underway, Route 5 remains available as an alternative, with access from Chachabamba via kilometers 104 and 106 of the Ollantaytambo-Machu Picchu railway line.
