According to America Television-Ipsos Peru quick count, at least eight former Congress members —who were running for re-election supported by parties: Solidaridad Nacional, Partido Aprista Peruano (APRA), Contigo, and Vamos Peru— may have no seat in the next Congress of the Republic since the referred political groups are not likely to pass the 5% threshold needed to claim representation.
Likewise, former APRA lawmaker Mauricio Mulder —who arrived in Parliament in 2001 and had been a legislator for 19 consecutive years— will not keep his seat, as will not former Congressman Luis Yika (
Fuerza Popular), who recently ran with Vamos Peru.
Concerning Contigo party —formerly known as Peruanos Por el Kambio (PPK)— ex-legislators
Salvador Heresi, Janet Sanchez, and Juan Sheput will not win any seat.
According to the quick count of America TV-Ipsos Peru at 100%, Partido Aprista Peruano (APRA) received 2.6%, followed by Vamos Peru (2.0%), Solidaridad Nacional (1.4%), and Contigo (1.1%).
Awaiting results
The situation of nine of them has yet to be defined since their parties may pass the 5% threshold, but the preferential vote results are not yet known.
Meanwhile, the Juntos Por el Peru candidates —who also run for re-election— were former parliamentarians Alberto Quintanilla (Puno) and Manuel Dammert (Lima), both from the Nuevo Peru party.
Parliamentary elections
Out of the total eligible voters, 23,825,154 live in Peru and 974,239 reside abroad, of which 650,010 are in the Americas, 281,640 in Europa, 36,288 in Asia, 5,980 in Oceania, and 321 in Africa.
