Peru: Former Congress members not to be in next Parliament

11:03 | Lima, Jan. 27.

According to America Television-Ipsos Peru quick count, at least eight former Congress members —who were running for re-election supported by parties: Solidaridad Nacional, Partido Aprista Peruano (APRA), Contigo, and Vamos Peru— may have no seat in the next Congress of the Republic since the referred political groups are not likely to pass the 5% threshold needed to claim representation.

Within this framework, the former parliamentarians who will not be in the next Congress are Rosa Bartra, Yeni Vilcatoma, and Nelly Cuadros. In 2016, they had been elected via Fuerza Popular but sought re-election through Solidaridad Nacional party.

Likewise, former APRA lawmaker Mauricio Mulder  —who arrived in Parliament in 2001 and had been a legislator for 19 consecutive years— will not keep his seat, as will not former Congressman Luis Yika (Fuerza Popular), who recently ran with Vamos Peru.

Concerning Contigo party —formerly known as Peruanos Por el Kambio (PPK)— ex-legislators Salvador Heresi, Janet Sanchez, and Juan Sheput will not win any seat.

According to the quick count of America TV-Ipsos Peru at 100%, Partido Aprista Peruano (APRA) received 2.6%, followed by Vamos Peru (2.0%), Solidaridad Nacional (1.4%), and Contigo (1.1%).
