Peru FA Min to attend Lima Group meeting in Canada

11:32 | Lima, Feb. 1.

Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio will travel to Canada to participate in a Lima Group's ministerial meeting convened to address Venezuela's situation following Juan Guaido's self-proclamation as interim president of such country.

According to a Supreme Resolution —published in El Peruano official gazette— the official will be outside the Inca country on February 3-5.

The 10th ministerial meeting of the Lima Group will take place in Ottawa, Ontario, on February 4, 2019.

Established to discuss the Venezuelan crisis, the Lima Group was launched in August 2017 by Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, and Peru. Guyana and Saint Lucia joined the bloc later on.

This new gathering will enable a follow-up of the actions agreed during the last meeting held January 4 in the Peruvian capital.

On that occasion, member countries renewed their commitment to promoting and developing regional coordination initiatives in response to the political and humanitarian crisis in the Bolivarian nation.

Later on, the Lima Group recognized Juan Guaido as the Interim President and expressed their support.

Economy and Finance Minister Carlos Oliva will take over the Foreign Affairs portfolio during Minister Popolizio's absence.

The document was signed by President Martin Vizcarra.
