Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Gustavo Meza-Cuadra has met with European Union Election Observation Mission (EUEOM) Chief Observer Leopoldo Lopez in the Peruvian capital city of Lima.

During the audience, they agreed on the importance of transparency in electoral processes for the sake of democracy.

The EUEOM chief observer arrived in Peru last Sunday joined by the EU Electoral Observation Mission's core team.

EU observers have arrived since December 17 last year to be deployed across all regions of the Inca country.

Minister Meza-Cuadra also met with Organization of American States' Electoral Observation Mission Head Eladio Loaizaga.

During the meeting with Paraguay's former Foreign Affairs Minister, the Peruvian diplomat stressed the importance Peru gives to the OAS' role in strengthening democratic institutions across the region.

The meetings took place on Tuesday.
