Peru's Economically Active Population (EAP) accounted for 62% of total citizens surveyed in October 2017, a 5% increase from the 2007 census, National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported Monday.

Based on recent census results, the Peruvian population stands at 31,237,385. Within this framework, women make up 50.8% of the total, while men comprise 49.2%.

"The Economically Active Population has increased from 57% to 62%, (meaning) five percentage points over the last 10 years," INEI affirmed.

In Peru, EAP includes people aged 14 and above, who —during the reference period— were working (employed) or actively seeking jobs (unemployed), according to a definition by the Central Reserve Bank (BCR).

INEI also forecasted the young population of working age will be able to join the labor market relying on better employment opportunities through greater training and job training incentives.

"They (youngsters) will definitely contribute to the country's economic growth (…)," it added.
