Nearly 1.5 million people will undertake domestic tourism activities in Peru during the Holy Week holidays, thus generating some US$247 million in business transactions, Lima Chamber of Commerce's (CCL) Tourism Committee (Comtur) projected Monday.
"In this four-day-long holiday [March 29-April 1], Peruvians will take the opportunity to visit different cities and
tourist attractions around the country, primarily in Peru’s central and eastern regions […]," Comtur Head Bartolome Campaña said.
According to the official, domestic
tourists' average spending —during those days— will amount to S/700 (about US$216), that means S/175 (about US$54) per day.
This amount includes tickets, transportation, food, lodging, and some scheduled tours.
Regarding ticket purchases and hotel reservations, Campaña informed there will not be a substantial increase this year, due to the fact that the Inca country had not yet developed a tourism culture compared to other nations in the region.
Nevertheless, the CCL representative underlined that more families and young people are in the habit of traveling, taking advantage of trade discounts offered by the sector's companies.
Lastly, Campaña pointed out the
political crisis facing the country will not affect
tourism in the short term; on the contrary, there are favorable conditions to receive domestic and
foreign tourists.
