Holy Week, one of the most-awaited long holidays of the year, is just around the corner and Peru offers a wide range of destinations, including stunning natural protected areas.

State-run National Service of Natural Protected Areas (Sernanp) invites nature lovers to discover six must-visit natural protected areas on these dates.

This is one of the few spots to see migratory birds from other continents along their north-south migration routes. The place houses up to 212 bird species including the blue heron, the white-bellied heron, and the grey gull.

Pomac Forest Historical Sanctuary (Lambayeque region)

Enjoy a memorable horseback ride around the nearly 6,000-hectare carob forest and get immersed in a magical experience as you explore Sican culture pyramids, one of the largest legacies in Peru's history.

Tumbes Mangroves National Sanctuary (Tumbes region)

This protected area is home to majestic mangroves with wetlands, forests, and trees of up to 25 meters. This green paradise is a must-see for those who enjoy watching birds and other animals in its full splendor.

Yanachaga-Chemillen National Park (Pasco region)

People visiting this national park will live and breathe adventure. The destination hosts a wide variety of orchid species, some of them even new to science.

Tourist activities include treks and observation of animals in their natural habitat such as Andean cock-of-the-rocks, squirrels, monkeys, South American tapirs, river otters, and red deers, among others.

Allpahuayo Mishana National Reserve (Loreto region)

This destination is well-known for its varied biodiversity. It is ideal to go trekking, watch wild animals and plants, go fishing, as well as for other experience-based tourism activities.
