Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Mario Lopez on Tuesday reported that his office is developing a foreign policy strategy aimed at boosting the economic recovery. It encourages the search for new markets for exporting purposes.

"The discovery of new markets, in the current context of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, will help reactivate national companies, especially the exporting ones," he expressed.

The high-ranking official specified that there is special attention to support micro- and small-enterprises (MSEs) that were particularly affected during this health emergency.

Likewise, the Cabinet member said that the Ministry will also join Peru's State-run Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversion) and the Economy-Finance Ministry in the presentation of major projects aimed at attracting new investments.

Regional integration

The minister added that —thanks to regional integration mechanisms— neighboring countries are being prioritized to develop a more active participation in markets with the aim of benefiting the commercial exchange.

"We must bear in mind that markets have closed and the possibilities of doing business are fewer during this pandemic situation," he told TV Peru.

On the other hand, he announced that a program to improve the country's image is under development.

"This is very important if we want to attract a greater flow of investments. For this reason, we want to present Peru with all its opportunities," he stated.
