Defense Minister Jorge Chavez announced that 50 Tayta mega-operations will be carried out in various regions across the country by the end of the year, thereby providing some 500,000 people with primary care in the COVID-19 response.

The minister disclosed that said operations —carried out in cooperation with health authorities— will be redoubled and intensified at the national level.

"These operations used to be carried out in the capital city. Now, together with the Ministry of Health (Minsa) and the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud), the primary care level will be strengthened in different regions," the government official stated.

"We are planning to carry out 50 Tayta mega-operations until the end of the year in order to benefit 100,000 families (around 500,000 people)," he added.

According to Chavez, these mega-operations will be redoubled by order of President Martin Vizcarra and Prime Minister Walter Martos, in order to benefit Peruvians throughout country.

As is known, the Territorial Aid Operation for Treatment and Isolation in Response to COVID-19 (Tayta Operation) is implemented by the Ministry of Health through rapid response teams made up of doctors, nurses, and health technicians, as well as by the Ministries of Defense and Interior through members of the Armed Forces and the National Police, respectively.

These interventions are coordinated with regional and local governments so as to reach the areas where target populations live and provide them with primary care services.

Remarks were made as he inaugurated the new Molecular Biology Laboratory at the Naval Hospital, joined by Health Minister Pilar Mazzetti.
