Peru condemns arrest of Venezuelan National Assembly Vice-President

10:38 | Lima, May. 9.

Peru rejects and condemns the arbitrary detention of Venezuela's National Assembly Vice-President Edgar Zambrano, the Inca country's Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Thursday.

The Peruvian Government demanded his immediate release and the halt of persecution —by the illegitimate regime of Nicolas Maduro— against those fighting to restore democracy in Venezuela.

Via Twitter, Zambrano said the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (SEBIN) took him by surprise and used a tow truck to drag his car away —with him inside— when he refused to get out of the vehicle.

The opposition deputy was taken to Helicoide, SEBIN headquarters in Caracas.

The arrest comes after the politician supported the April 30 military uprising against Maduro within the framework of the Operation Freedom's final phase.
