Peru Libre party candidate Pedro Castillo on Tuesday said he is respectful of the democratic regulatory framework, adding that he awaits the announcement of the presidential runoff election's official results by electoral authorities.

"We are here, first of all being respectful of the popular will, of the democratic normative framework; on our part, you will not see any aggressions; however, we are not going to allow our people to continue being discriminated against," Castillo told reporters.

"We are patiently awaiting a result," he said and assured that Peru Libre will not encourage any calls to "take down an election."

"If there is a call for 'knocking down an election,' that won't be coming from our side. Things have been said before and during the campaign. We are simply awaiting the results. Even so, there are voices that come from personalities who have political experience of wanting to go further, to prosecute the will of the Peruvian people," he commented.

Remarks were made while participating in a press conference convened by Peru Libre's technical team to talk with foreign press correspondents in Peru.

As is known, Peruvians went to the polls to elect a new President of the Republic between candidates Keiko Fujimori and Pedro Castillo in the runoff election on June 6. Whoever wins the election will become Mr. Sagasti's successor and take office on July 28, 2021.
