Presidential candidate Pedro Castillo (Peru Libre) on Monday night affirmed that citizens must be respectful of the popular will expressed at polls in the presidential runoff election held last Sunday.

"The homeland, Peru, needs to be rescued by us, its offspring; thanks to each one of you for lending a shoulder; we must be respectful of the popular will," he said from his campaign venue in Lima.

As the 51-year-old teacher remarked, he will be the first to make people's will be respected.

While addressing his followers, Castillo affirmed that he is not guided by a personal or petty interest, but an interest in Peru.

Likewise, the candidate called for sanity and tranquility, as he praised the representatives of his party, saying that they show courage and are heroes of democracy.

Castillo also expressed recognition and saluted the citizens' vigil for democracy.

"Peru comes ahead of anything, (it is) our homeland. Only the people will save the people," he emphasized.
