The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Friday afternoon administered the oath of office to Betssy Chavez, who has become the new Prime Minister of Peru.

Thus, the 33-year-old Congresswoman replaces resigning Prime Minister Anibal Torres in the post.

During previous months, Chavez served as Minister of Culture and Labor-Employment Promotion. Her participation in this latter sector ended in May 2022 —after Congress approved a censure motion against her.

Betssy Chavez was elected Congresswoman for the 2021-2026 term, after running for Peru Libre (Free Peru) party in southern Tacna region.

Subsequently, she withdrew from said parliamentary group to join the Peru Democratico (Democratic Peru) bench.

Chavez studied Law at the Jorge Basadre Grohmann National University in Tacna.

She also holds a Master's Degree in Law with a mention in Constitutional Law from the Jose Carlos Mariategui University.
