The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Thursday night announced that, once Congress had flatly rejected the confidence motion raised by the Executive Branch, he accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Anibal Torres.

Within this framework, the Head of State affirmed that he will reshuffle the Ministerial Cabinet.

"After (…) having accepted the resignation of the Prime Minister, whom I thank for his concern and work for the country, I will reshuffle the Cabinet," Mr. Castillo expressed during an Address to the Nation.

The top official indicated that citizens' right to direct political participation, through referendum, has been hindered.

"The right to exercise it again has been arbitrarily taken away from us. We wanted to restore this right, but certain congressional groups have decided to reject it," he pointed out.

Lastly, the Head of State called on the Legislative Branch to respect the constitutional rule of law, democracy, and the balance of powers.

"Congress members, you should reconsider. Citizens' rights cannot remain truncated due to some interests of elites or minorities," he underlined.
