Peru: Anti-COVID-19 Tayta Operation to be extended to various regions

17:49 | Lima, Aug. 11.

The Territorial Aid Operation for Treatment and Isolation in Response to COVID-19 (Tayta Operation) will be extended to several regions across the country, Prime Minister Walter Martos announced on Tuesday.

Tayta Operation involves various sectors in central, regional and local governments, as well as the private sector and society as a whole.

This week's interventions will occur in Huanuco, Tingo Maria, Puno and Juliaca. The operation will then move to Tacna, Cusco and Ayacucho, the President of the Council of Ministers said in his speech to Parliament.

Martos noted that Tayta Operation is an effective strategy that helps focus the fight against the pandemic and, therefore, the Executive Branch is planning to deepen it.

"As Defense Minister, I participated directly in the design and implementation of this strategy, establishing various points of care in the city, as well as brigades, who go from house to house conducting screenings, clinical examinations, and delivering medications, particularly to the vulnerable population," he pointed out.

In Cajamarca region, the operation was carried out simultaneously in the provinces of Cajamarca, Jaen and San Ignacio, reaching more than 22,000 inhabitants; while in Moquegua, visits took place in the provinces of Ilo, Mariscal Nieto and Sanchez Cerro.

Moreover, the Cabinet chief told regional and local authorities, as well as legislators representing different regions, that in the coming days and weeks the State will be much more present to work on the defense and protection of life and health of Peruvians in the interior of the country.

In accordance with Article 130 of the Constitution, the President of the Council of Ministers must attend Congress —joined by his Cabinet— to present the Government's general policy and the principal measures pursued by the Executive Branch.
