Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister Gustavo Meza-Cuadra and Japan's Ambassador to Peru Sadayuki Tsuchiya have signed the "Convention between Japan and The Republic of Peru for the Elimination of Double Taxation with respect to Taxes on Income and the Prevention of Tax Evasion and Avoidance."

The objective of this agreement is to establish mechanisms aimed at avoiding double taxation on income taxes, in addition to constituting an instrument for the tax administration system to face more effectively international tax evasion and avoidance.

In this sense, the covenant aims to create a favorable investment environment between both nations, thus strengthening transparency and the fight against corruption.

The aforementioned agreement was signed as part of the commemoration of the 120 years of Japanese immigration to Peru and the 50th anniversary of the Peruvian-Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Japan ranks 15th among the nations with the highest investments in Peru, mainly in the mining sector.
