Peru: 56 police agents discharged after battling COVID-19

A total of 56 National Peruvian Police agents were discharged after beating coronavirus (COVID-19), and now they are kept safe at home, new Interior Minister Gaston Rodriguez reported on Monday.

According to Rodriguez, recent information reveals that 20 police members have died and 2,000 have been confirmed as infected across the country.

"We are joining forces to better care for our police agents," he said, noting that a field hospital is being set up at the police complex. Said medical facility will rely on 50 beds donated by Peruvian brewery Backus.

In addition, he reported that Casa Andina Hotel has 125 rooms available nationwide to quarantine suspected COVID-19 cases in the police.

The minister disclosed that the institution has conducted more than 30,000 COVID-19 tests so far and expects to receive a batch of 200,000 (80,000 molecular and 120,000 rapid) tests in the coming days.

The Cabinet member affirmed that the Interior Ministry and the general command of the National Police are working closely to find timely solution to unexpected events.

Remarks were made from Juan Benites Luna "Los Cibeles" police complex in Lima's Rimac district.
