The UK edition of renowned
National Geographic Traveller Magazine has released its September issue that explores the mountains, jungle, and world-renowned cuisine of Peru, the Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) reported.
As stated by the magazine, the route links archaeological sites and traditional communities as it goes through the Southern Andes.
"Much like the Inca Trail, the Lares Trek isn't so much a single route as a network of trails across the Sacred Valley, with almost endless configurations," reads part of the description in the article.
In addition to the extraordinary cover, the publication delves into the realm of the 'cloud warriors' in the
Amazonas region.
"In northern Peru's Amazonas region, the Chachapoyas' cloud warriors honored their dead with villages of chullpas, multi-story mausoleums built high up in the mountains."
Besides, this issue explores the
Imperial City of Cusco, which it describes as a place where Incan and Andean baroque architecture meet.
The cited attractions include Cusco's main square in the historic center, the San Pedro Market, the sacred site of
Qoricancha, the
Sacsayhuaman Fortress, and the food.
Another highlight is the breathtaking
Rainbow Mountain. "It's worth climbing the final few meters for better views over the heads of other hikers."
Those who still have energy are recommended to walk a short distance further to visit the Red Valley.
