Moody's: Peru finds new growth engines

00:05 | Lima, Oct. 23.

Moody's Investors Service Vice-President Jaime Reusche affirmed Peru is finding new economic growth engines in the tourism and agro-export sectors.

"New growth engines have been found, but they're very few for now. (…) More engines must be implemented," he told Andina news agency.

Likewise, the aquaculture sector will be boosted through legislative powers, in addition to the efforts currently being undertaken to strengthen the forestry segment.

"There are many other sectors in which we can identify engines and promote them through special labor regimes, as was done in the exports sector. It is important that this boost be replicated in the aquaculture sector," the Moody's representative expressed.

Tourism

Furthermore, Reusche indicated tourism is another growth engine that has been turned on, although it requires greater infrastructure to achieve a significant dynamism.

"Tourism has started to move forward, and that supports inland cities' development. Kuelap's cable car system is an example of that (…)," he added in this sense.

Long-term vision

The economist also stated the Government must create a long-term vision in their policies aimed at leaving a significant legacy that will contribute to achieving sustainable development

"The current administration has the opportunity to implement economic reforms that can leave a very strong legacy (...)," Reusche concluded.
