Peru's Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva on Monday stressed the mixed government-parliamentary commission is making progress in identifying economic exemptions and making corresponding amendments to them.
"The commission —composed of Parliament and Executive members, led by Economy and Finance Ministry (MEF)— is meeting to trace properly all exemptions. Some will remain, but many will be gone," Villanueva told RPP radio and TV news station.
"The exemptions were originally included in the
legislative powers, but we realized we needed further involvement from Congress. Hence the formation of a multiparty commission," the official indicated.
Labor reform
On the other hand, Villanueva stressed the need to undertake a labor reform to maintain the dynamic generation of
formal employment.
In this sense, the cabinet member informed agriculture-regime-like mechanisms will be created to include aquaculture and forestry activities.
"The
agriculture regime has yielded fruit and, in the light of these results, we'll make minor adjustments to this mechanism. We want to include two other key axes: aquaculture and forestry," he pointed out.
While the reform is highly important, he explained, reaching consensus is not easy. However, the Government will make every effort to satisfy both sides.
