Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva and Economy-Finance Minister David Tuesta on Monday welcomed an International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission, which expressed its support for the fiscal measures recently adopted by the Peruvian Government.
Some of the latest actions taken by the Executive Branch include the modification of excise tax rates and the improvement of
public expenditure management.
On the occasion, Villanueva thanked the IMF mission's visit led by
Ravi Balakrishnan.
In addition, he reaffirmed President Martin Vizcarra's administration is committed to working intensely to achieve
economic recovery, as well as sustainable, orderly, decentralized, and equitable
growth.
Within this framework, the Cabinet chief reiterated the Executive Branch's goal by July 2021 is to hand over a country economically healthy and socially united.
For its part, the IMF delegation highlighted the Ministerial Cabinet's efforts to take measures on said matter, as well as the
legislative power request to
Congress.
Economic growth
According to the Fund, the Peruvian economy is projected to
grow 3.7% in 2018. Also, it estimated the Inca country's GDP will expand above 4% next year.
