Health Minister Hernando Cevallos on Saturday announced that 1 million Sinopharm vaccine doses and 200,000 Pfizer doses will land in Peru between today and tomorrow, thus ensuring the continuity of the Vaccinathon event.

"We continue to make further efforts in order to reach out to the most remote locations of the country," he said.

Besides, the Cabinet member indicated that the Health Ministry has started negotiations to acquire 35 million additional Pfizer doses for 2022.

In that regard, the Foreign Affairs Ministry continues doing its work.

Furthermore, the Minister pointed out that the Government has given priority to the health sector, allocating over S/2.8 billion (about US$680 million) to close gaps.

"Reverting this situation in three weeks is difficult, but we are providing the resources for regional governments to rely on provisions," he added.

Moreover, the government official mentioned that 144 Delta variant cases have been detected so far in Peru.

For that reason, the Health Ministry and the Regional Health Directorates (Diresa) are strengthening the operational capacity of health services.

Lastly, Cevallos urged people to get the second dose and reinforce preventive measures.
