The fourth Vaccinathon against COVID-19 —held in Lima Metropolitan Area and eight regions across the country— has exceeded the target set for these three days, with 735,294 doses administered in a 60 hour period, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported on Sunday evening.

Speaking from Luis Galvez Chipoco stadium in Lima's Barranco district, Health Minister Hernando Cevallos underlined that this is a record amount for the country, which confirms the willingness of Peruvians to save their lives from the threat of COVID-19, even more now in the event of an upcoming and possible third wave.

"It gives me great satisfaction to say that this campaign displays extraordinary characteristics —mainly due to the participation of the population— which has been decisive in the care of their lives and that of their relatives," he expressed.

Cevallos affirmed that this has been possible thanks to a joint effort involving not only dedicated health staff but also administrative workers, technical teams, as well as the media.

Of the total, 400,529 people were inoculated in Lima Metropolitan Area and Callao, while 334,765 were vaccinated in regions.

It should be pointed out that the target of this vaccination drive was to immunize 300,000 people.

The total number of doses administered at this fourth Vaccinathon (735,294 doses) must be added to that recorded during the regular vaccination campaign, which means almost a million people have been immunized between Friday and Sunday.
