Peru: Health workers visit elderly people at home searching for COVID-19 cases in Moquegua

00:17 | Moquegua (Moquegua region), Aug. 7.

Doctors and nurses from the Ministry of Health (Minsa) go from house to house visiting the elderly to search for COVID-19 positive cases in the cities of Moquegua, Ilo and Omate.

The visits take place as part of the Territorial Aid Operation for Treatment and Isolation in Response to COVID-19 (Tayta Operation).

On Thursday morning, professionals from Minsa's General Directorate of Strategic Interventions in Public Health paid the first visits for clinical evaluation, sampling and delivery of medications.

The Tayta Operation in these three cities will resume on Friday in order to break the chain of COVID-19 infections and take care of the infected elderly population until they are fully recovered, the health sector reported in a press release.

Joint efforts

The intervention is implemented together with the Ministry of Defense and the Moquegua Region Government.

In addition, the Minsa team will provide technical assistance through strategies for the prevention and control of COVID-19 at health facilities, as well as campaigns to conduct diagnostic tests and provide the corresponding treatment, if necessary.

Thus, health care services at the primary care level will be ramped up from August 8 to August 13.
