Peru and Japan are about to celebrate their 150th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. In light of this, the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides details about the agreements between both countries, which cover a number of aspects.

The publication states that political and diplomatic agreements with Japan include the Preliminary Treaty of Peace, Friendship, Commerce and Navigation; the 2016 Joint Declaration, which raised the level of the relationship to a 'Strategic Partnership' and established the mechanism for political dialogue; and the 028-16 Joint Statement.

The second group is made up of economic agreements: the Economic Partnership Agreement; the Reciprocal Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement; and the Agreement to Avoid Double Taxation and Prevent Tax Evasion.

Finally, Peru and Japan participate in multilateral platforms, such as the Pacific Alliance, in which Japan has been granted observer status; the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

As part of said celebration, Japanese Foreign Affairs Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi will undertake an official visit to Peru on May 3.

"On the occasion of the upcoming visit to Peru by Japan's Foreign Affairs Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa, learn how respect for democracy, promotion and protection of human rights, as well as free trade and multilateralism, are values that unite us with the land of the rising sun," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted via Twitter.
