Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Gustavo Meza-Cuadra met with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi with whom he addressed the main topics of the bilateral relationship, highlighting its excellent level and emphasizing the constant collaboration both countries make at multilateral forums such as the United Nations.

During the audience, the ministers pledged to start the coordination to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2021—the year of the Inca country's Independence Bicentennial.

In Beijing, the Peruvian cabinet member participated in the Third Meeting of the Ancient Civilizations Forum, which was attended by high authorities and officials from Greece, Egypt, Iran, Armenia, Italy, Iraq, and —of course— China.

At the event, they addressed the strategies for: protection of material and intangible cultural heritage, cooperation for prevention, and fight against the illicit trafficking of cultural property.

Similarly, the creative use of science and technology for cultural transmission in everyday life, as well as the cooperation to strengthen the contribution of sustainable tourism and cultural industries to economic development were discussed.

The Peruvian diplomat gave the closing speech at the event, highlighting the contribution of ancient civilizations to the well-being of humanity, and his conviction that ancestral wisdom can serve to face the intercultural-coexistence problems and other urgent challenges, such as the relief from poverty, in addition to environmental sustainability.

In particular, he stressed that —in the Peruvian case— its ancestral societies provided the world with food security and generated progress in balance with nature.

Finally, he invited the participating countries to join the fourth edition of this event, which will take place during the second half of 2020 in Peru and would have "the fight against illicit trafficking of cultural property" as its main theme.

In Beijing, Minister Meza-Cuadra also met with Chinese Culture-Tourism Minister Luo Shugang, and Greek Culture-Sports Minister Styliani Mendoni —authorities with whom he agreed to promote joint activities to boost the dissemination of cultural manifestations.
