FA Min: Peru appreciates China's rapid response to covid-19 aid request

00:00 | Lima, May. 25.

Foreign Affairs Minister Gustavo Meza-Cuadra has affirmed that the Government of Peru appreciates China's rapid response to donation and non-reimbursable aid requests to deal with the coronavirus (covid-19) epidemic.

Such response, he said, reflects the historic friendship ties between both nations and the strengthening of the Peru-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The high-ranking official noted the Government of Peru is making significant efforts to combat the pandemic, which are complemented by the international cooperation aid.

For this reason, he explained, the Covid-19 Working Group has been operating at the Foreign Affairs Ministry since March 16.

Such platform is responsible for the management of donations and non-reimbursable international cooperation from governments, companies, civil society, among others.

In statements to China Today, Meza-Cuadra affirmed that Peru has received significant donations from the Chinese Government, both at national and sub-national levels, from Chinese companies (Alibaba Group, Huawei, and BGI) and Chinese charity.

Such donations included molecular tests, personal protection equipment, and thermometers.

Likewise, on May 17, Peru received a donation from China Yangtze Power —a subsidiary of China Three Gorges— consisting of 25 ventilators, 36 defibrillators, 46 monitors, and 18 ultrasound dopplers, all of which will be extremely useful when it comes to combating the virus.

Additionally, the Cabinet member explained that potential suppliers of medical materials and equipment have been identified by Peruvian missions abroad in order to facilitate purchases by national and sub-national entities in China.
