Peru, China to strengthen infrastructure cooperation

00:00 | Beijing (China), Jun. 27.

China will promote further cooperation with Peru in the field of infrastructure, the Asian Giant's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) informed.

According to NDRC's Department of International Cooperation representative Li Bin, the Inca country is Latin America's second-most important destination for Chinese investments, with a total of US$18.40 billion.

It must be noted such amount is mainly invested in mining and energy sectors.

"There are more than 100 Chinese companies whose branches and offices are based in different parts of Peru," he told Andina news agency.

Furthermore, Bin remarked China seeks to strengthen its relationship with the South American nation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Promoted by Chinese President Xi Jinping, this initiative is a trade and infrastructure plan aimed at connecting Asia with Europe, Africa, and Latin America, as well as boosting common development.

According to Bin, Peru has the potential to strengthen economic cooperation with China in terms of infrastructure, and communications, among other sectors.

He went on to add Peru and China rely on various economic cooperation mechanisms to boost collaboration in terms of production capacity within mining, energy, and construction sectors.

"We promote production and investment capacities. We will foster further cooperation with Peru in infrastructure," he concluded.
