Peruvian economy registered a growth rate of 2.2% in the first nine months of 2019, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) has reported.

Agriculture

The production in the agriculture sector grew 0.9% in September as a result of a higher production of export-oriented goods (blueberries, grapes, mangos, and cacao) and increased activity in the livestock subsector.

With this, the agriculture output accumulates a growth rate of 2.7% as at September.

Fishery sector

In September, fishing activity grew 14.3%, driven by higher landings of fish for direct human consumption.

The catch of inland fisheries was also noteworthy due to trout extraction. In the January-September period, the fishery sector output registered a fall of 19.5%.

Mining

The production in the mining and hydrocarbons sector declined 3.4% mainly due to a lower production of copper, gold, molybdenum, and iron. It was offset by a higher extraction of hydrocarbons.

In the first nine months of 2019, the output in this sector decreased 0.8%.

Electricity

In September, the output in the electricity, water and gas sector grew 2.8% compared to the same month the previous year, mainly due to the increased production observed in the gas subsector (3.5%).

Between January-September, the sector showed a growth rate of 4.4%.

Construction

The activity in the construction sector grew 3.8% in September due to the faster pace of progress in private projects and in the Reconstruction with Changes Program being implemented in the north of the country.

The sector grew 4.2% in the first nine months of 2019.

Commerce

The commerce sector grew 3.4% in September, driven by higher wholesale sales (3.4%) and retail sales (3.4%).

Services

In September, the services sector grew 3.6% due to the positive results obtained in all of its components, particularly in financial and insurance, public administration, and telecommunications services.

Thus, the sector showed a growth rate of 3.7% in January-September.
