Peru has enough natural gas reserves for next 35 years

09:13 | Lima, Oct. 29.

Peru has enough natural gas reserves to meet the domestic and external demand for the next 35 years, Perupetro Promotion and Recruitment Manager Luis Felipe Fernandez has affirmed.

"The country relies on 15.11 trillion cubic feet (TCF). The highest concentration of this reserve is located in the Camisea field, which includes Lots 88, 58, 56, and 57," the official expressed.

In this sense, Camisea has 14.31 TCF, which represent 94% of Inca nation's total reserves.

According to Fernandez, the development of gas reserves does not go against the development of renewable energies.

Regions

Likewise, he explained that 2% of total gas production is concentrated in northern areas, while 1% is in central zones.

Meanwhile, southern areas concentrate 97% of total natural gas production

Gas pipeline

Furthermore, the Perupetro representative underlined the main advantages of building a gas pipeline in the southern areas of Peru are energy security and valuing natural gas resources

Widespread use

On the other hand, he mentioned that the project for the widespread consumption of natural gas in central and southern areas of the country —which will require an investment worth US$200 million— is backed by the Energy Social Inclusion Fund (FISE).

The officer pointed out this initiative will mainly attend to domestic consumption, businesses, and small industries in the area.

Remarks were made during the workshop "Development of natural gas projects in Peru, how are we doing?" organized by Perupetro.
