A total of 900 police agents will provide security during the
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum's
Finance and Central Bank Deputies Meeting, to be held from February 21 to 24 in the southern city of Arequipa.
The police personnel are part of the APEC 2024 operational security plan, which was presented by the chief of the Ninth Police Macroregion, General Colin Sim Galvan, at Cerro Juli Convention Center facilities, where the event will take place.
According to the police authority, in total,
850 non-commissioned officers and 50 officers of the
Peruvian National Police (PNP) will provide security for visitors from the
21 APEC economies.
Among the 900 police members are personnel from Lima and Arequipa, who have been distributed in three security rings (area of action, adjacent area, and area of influence).
General Sim Galvan indicated that State Security, Counter-Terrorism, Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Airport Police, Special Operations Directorate (Dinoes), and Highway Police staff arrived from Lima to support in security issues during the days of the event.
Moreover, the police chief noted that the safety of the Arequipa people will be ensured during those days through foot and motorbike patrols, as well as joint patrols along with municipal security guards.

Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, the Russian Federation, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam.
Together, they account for 62% of world's GDP, 48% of global trade in goods and services, plus 38% of the planet's population.
