The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Wednesday announced that Trujillo, Arequipa, Cusco, Pucallpa, and Lima will be the venues for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum to be chaired by Peru in 2024.

The Head of State underscored the importance of bringing the APEC agenda to various Peruvian regions, decentralizing the venues during the year in which our country will hold the bloc's Presidency.

In this sense, the top official affirmed that her administration has an unwavering pro-decentralization commitment.

Mrs. Boluarte added that the five chosen areas will host the delegations that are part of this mechanism, adding that they will address the issues which help consolidate the progress and development agenda sought by this forum.

The president indicated that the northern city of Trujillo, due to its agricultural export potential and contribution to GDP, was chosen to host the Food Security Week and the Agriculture Ministers Meeting in August 2024.

The second venue will be Arequipa which, given its productive capacity and enormous resource potential, will host the joint meeting between APEC Women and Foreign Trade Ministers, who will evaluate measures for the empowerment of women in foreign trade.

Similarly, the president indicated that, given its contribution to tourism and the domestic economy, the city of Urubamba —located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, southern Andean Cusco region— was chosen as the third venue, which will host the bloc's Tourism Ministers Meeting.

Meanwhile, the fourth venue will be Pucallpa, where the meetings of ministers and working groups related to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will be held.

"Finally, we will have as last venue our capital, Lima, city of entrepreneurs and driving force of the country; it will not only welcome various meetings of the teams that are part of APEC but also host the Economic Leaders' Week of this mechanism in November 2024," Mrs. Boluarte indicated.

The top official affirmed that the APEC Presidency in 2024 is an important achievement and offers Peru the opportunity to incorporate issues directly related to the population's needs, especially of the most vulnerable citizens, into the forum's agenda.

Mrs. Boluarte indicated that Peru's priorities in 2024 will be trade and investments for inclusive growth; innovation to promote the transition to the formal and global economy; and sustainable growth for resilient development.

"Similarly, under a decentralized approach, we have been preparing the APEC Citizen Peru 2024 initiative with the aim of bringing the forum's benefits closer to the population," she concluded.

This event took place at the Government Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
