U.S. funds 18 Regional Emergency Operations Centers in Peru

The United States Embassy in Peru reported that the North American country is funding the implementation of 18 Regional Emergency Operations Centers (COERs) to address the adverse conditions that may arise from El Niño phenomenon.

"We continue to support Peru in addressing El Niño phenomenon. The United States is funding 18 Regional Emergency Operations Centers (COER) in Peru," the diplomatic mission stated on X.

It also explained that the COERs "monitor hazards, emergencies, and disasters" and "manage information for timely decision-making in the event of any weather-related contingency."

"Through the provision of equipment and training with disaster and rescue experts, the U.S. is strengthening regional capacity for emergency coordination and response," the post said.

According to information from the U.S. Embassy, the COERs are located in Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Ancash, Amazonas, Loreto, San Martin, Huanuco, Junin, Huancavelica, Arequipa, Apurimac, Moquegua, Tacna, Puno, Cusco, and Ucayali.
